Royal horses to perform a spectacular show at the Cox Convention Center this weekend

OKLAHOMA CITY – It’s a European tradition both on and off the stage.

“My family goes back seven generations working with horses, so it’s in our blood,” said horse riding master Rene Gasser.

Gasser has been around horses his whole life. He’s known the horse Ringo, with Gala of the Royal Horses, since birth.

“He’s not the prettiest but he’s a good jumper,” said Gasser.

That’s why they call him Ringo.

“He’s sort of got the same face as him,” he said.

Ringo’s skills is what makes the stallion shine.

Ringo’s capriole is one of the many tricks that has helped give one family a career.

16-year-old Katharina Gasser is following in her mother and father’s footsteps.

She wants nothing more than to be with her family, human and horse alike.

Originally from Switzerland, the Gassers spend most of their time performing in the Gala of Royal Horses around the world.

15 stallions, numerous dancers, crew and gear tour each year.

For Katharina, performing in the Gala of Royal Horses is not a job, it is a lifestyle.

“First I ride in the show. Then, I have an act where I basically lay down with my horse,” said Gasser.

Katharina considers Ringo her closes roadside companion.

“I watched him getting born when I was like 3 so we’ve grown up together,” she said.

With the grace and precision of an athlete, the awe-inspiring horses wouldn’t be the elegant stallions they are without their trainer.

The Gala of the Royal Horses is 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.

Tickets available at the box office, by phone at (800) 745-3000 or online at CoxConventionCenter.com.
