LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Police say they have arrested a Lawton man for an unusual crime involving a local video store.

According to KSWO, employees at Family Video immediately recognized 44-year-old Anthony Mercier when he walked in the door.

Employees told officers that Mercier had been a suspect in several thefts from the store.

When he started walking to the adult movie section, workers called police.

KSWO reports that police and an employee saw Mercier choosing videos from the shelf, moving to a different area of the store and then putting the movie cover back in its place.

Officers also noticed the smell of burning plastic, which is usually associated with thieves removing the security devices from the DVD cases.

As Mercier attempted to leave, the officer grabbed his arm and several DVDs fell out of his coat.

Authorities say the officer and the employee found 29 pornographic DVDs from Mercier’s jacket.
