TULSA, Okla. – A Tulsa mother has died after she was accidentally shot by her toddler son.

Emergency crews received a call about a 26-year-old mother who was shot in the head Monday evening.

Police say the woman was home with her 3-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter when her son grabbed a semiautomatic handgun and fired one shot at his mother.

Officials say the victim’s mother-in-law, who also lives at the home, arrived home to find her daughter-in-law shot in the head.

According to KJRH, EMSA paramedics transported the 26-year-old mother to a Tulsa hospital in grave condition.

She was later pronounced dead at 5:38 p.m.

Child specialists interviewed the 3-year-old boy to helpĀ figure out what happened.

KJRH says as the toddler was buckled into the police car, he repeated “mommy shot.”

The victim’s husband, who is a truck driver, was out of state at the time of the accident.

Police say he was notified of the tragedy and returned home.
