OKLAHOMA CITY – A man was arrested after allegedly beating his girlfriend with a cross.

On Sunday, officers were called to an apartment in southeast Oklahoma City after 911 dispatchers heard a woman being beaten over the phone.

When they arrived, they found a woman whose head and face were covered in blood.

The victim told officers that she had been dating her boyfriend for the past three months.

Over that time, she said 28-year-old Devoe Johnson became increasingly violent and aggressive.

According to the arrest affidavit, after accusing her of cheating on him, Johnson began punching her in the face.

“[Victim] stated [Johnson] grabbed a decorative cross off the wall and came at her with it. The cross was made of wood with metal type nails interwoven on the front. [Johnson] began hitting her over the head with it, causing multiple lacerations to her head and face,” the report read.

The victim was eventually able to escape the apartment with her eldest son.

However, her two young children were still asleep inside the home.

Fortunately, police were able to arrest Johnson without incident.

He is being charged with domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and no state driver’s license.
