DURANGO, Colo. — A couple who went on their annual lake diving trip found something priceless, and they used social media to find its owner.

FOX31 Denver reports in July 2014 Dan Burkovskiy traveled across the country with his three best friends.

He wanted to capture all of the memories on a GoPro camera, but it came to a halt when there was a camera mishap.

The group was kayaking around Lake Powell and the camera fell into the water and sunk about 40 feet down.

“I was really bummed out because I saved pictures from up until Chicago and then after that everything was gone,” says Burkovskiy.

When Allisa Oliger and her husband, Mark, went diving in that lake on New Year's Day, they found Burkovskiy's lost GoPro.

The couple said it had hundreds of photos and several minutes worth of video on the memory card.

She searched for Burkovskiy on YouTube and Facebook.

When she found him, she immediately recognized his face from the photos and videos.

“I’m just so glad they put their time and effort into finding me,” Burkovskiy says, “There’s still hope for humanity.”
