RALEIGH, N.C. – A touching moment between strangers was caught on camera recently inside a Target store.
“I see this young teen being hovered over by this Target employee,” Mark said.
She got closer to see what was happening.
The employee was tying the teen’s tie and providing a bit of wisdom.
“I hear him peppering him with all this advice on interview skills and handshakes,” she said.
According to Cathy Scott, a Target employee, the teen was looking for a tie.
“I asked him if he needed help and he told me he needed clip-on ties,” Scott said. “We didn’t have any.”
She found a co-worker, Dennis Roberts, and asked him if he knew how to tie a regular tie.
He did, so the teen purchased one and handed it over to Roberts.
As it turns out, the teenager needed a tie for a job interview at Chick-fil-A.
The pair decided to go a step further and prepare him for his interview.
“We said, ‘Make sure you look him in the eye.’ I’m saying, ‘Make sure you give him a firm handshake.’ And she showed him, he tucked his shirt in,” Roberts said.
“He was saying, ‘Yes, ma’am,’ and he was just soaking it all in,” Scott said.
“It was a very quiet, simple moment, but it was very profound,” Mark said. “He leaves and all these Target employees are screaming, ‘Bye! Good luck! Tell us how it went.’ I got so emotional. I got teary.”
However, it didn’t end there.
The next day, the Target team went to the Chick-fil-A to recommend him for the job and share their experience with the restaurant’s manager.
The manager says he plans to make his decision this week about who got the job.
