KONA, HAWAII– A 16-year-old New Yorker made the catch of a lifetime Wednesday when he reeled in a 1,058-pound blue marlin off the coast of Kona.
“I would imagine that there’s not very many more things as exhilarating than catching a ‘grander’ in Kona,” said 16-year-old Kai Rizzuto.
It took Rizzuto a grueling 30 minutes to bring in the mammoth fish that measured 11 feet long from jaw to tail.
“He was excited, but it was really hard work. We went very hard after that fish,” Kai’s Grandfather, Jim Rizzuto said. “He went right at it with a lot of professional calm that surprised me.”
According to HawaiiNewsNow, Rizzuto is even believed to be the youngest angler to pull in a grander off Kona.
The fish was dead by the time he was reeled into the boat. So Rizzuto shared the catch with nearly 100 people in the area.
