FLETCHER, Okla. -- A mother and son are happy to be alive after they were swept away by rising flood waters.
The duo was stuck clinging to a tree for hours. Though they lost a car, a phone, and some flip flops, they've gained a story they'll never forget.
It's near the intersection of Bethel and Cline Rd, nestled in the trees, where you'll find a Chevy Cruze stuck in the brush.
"This is my baby," said Lisa Thomas, who was driving the car."I've only had it for eight months."
The car docked on Saturday, after being caught up in yet another round of flash flooding.
"We were dragged into the current, and pretty much craziness ensued," explained Dylan Thomas, Lisa's son.
"We just started twirling, like bumper boats bouncing around," said Lisa.
As the water rose into the car, the Thomas's made a swim for it.
They ultimately climbed onto a nearby tree after wading through neck high water.
While Lisa left her phone behind in the car, Dylan held his high above his head.
He later updated family and friends on their condition by posting videos to Facebook.
"Fortunately nothing terrible happened to us," said Dylan. "I'm just happy to be alive."
After three long hours, emergency crews came to the rescue in a small boat to take the Thomas's to shore.
Although her car's a total loss, it's Lisa's last worry.
"We're good...we'll get through it," noted Lisa.
She also credits friends who live nearby that were able to point emergency personnel in the right direction to help find the family.
