OKLAHOMA CITY -- An unruly passenger forces an airplane to make an unexpected landing at Will Rogers World Airport.
Police arrested Reginald Ballard following the brief security scare.
Police say Ballard had been a passenger on a Delta flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta.
During that flight, a heavily intoxicated Ballard allegedly locked himself inside a bathroom on the plane and refused to come out.
Even after the plane landed at the airport, Ballard did not give up without a fight.
"After they had him in custody, he continued yelling cussing and basically fighting officers the entire way," said Oklahoma City police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow.
"This is pretty unusual," said airport spokesperson Karen Carney.
Carney says while planes are occasionally re-routed to Will Rogers for medical reasons or equipment problems, it is rare to see a plane land because of an out of control passenger.
"We don't see planes routed here for unruly passengers very often," said Carney.
"We understand passengers don't want the extra stop but obviously it's something done for security," said Wardlow. "This man was creating a disturbance and had to be taken off the plane."
Police booked Ballard into jail on charges of public drunkenness, destruction of property, and disorderly conduct.
The suspect has since bonded out of the jail.
According to the police report, Ballard is from North Carolina.
