KINNEAR, Wy. – A Wyoming man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly attacking his wife with a hatchet.

Terry Schmuck is charged with attempted first-degree murder after he allegedly attacked his estranged wife inside her home.

Investigators say Schmuck’s estranged wife, Cindy, served him divorce papers early Thursday morning.

On Friday, Schmuck allegedly took a hatchet to his wife’s house, cut the telephone wires, forcefully entered her home and hit Cindy in the head.

Cindy had an order of protection against Schmuck, which was in place during the alleged attack.

Following the attack, police say he drove Cindy to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The affidavit said Cindy suffered a depressed skull fracture and a subdural hematoma.

Schmuck allegedly admitted during questioning that he went to Cindy’s home “with the intent to kill his wife,” according to County 10.

Fortunately, Cindy is expected to make a full recovery.
