End of an era: ‘Maria’ retiring from ‘Sesame Street’
It’s the end of an era on “Sesame Street.”
This week, it was announced that the street is losing one of its most beloved neighbors, Sonia Manzano.
Manzano has played ‘Fix-It’ shop owner, Maria, for almost 45 years.
However, the 65-year-old Puerto Rican actress revealed that she is retiring.
Manzano first appeared on “Sesame Street” in 1971 and became a regular character in 1974.
In 2013, Sonia Manzano stopped by our studios.
During her career with the PBS show, she won 15 Emmy Awards. Her biography, “Becoming Maria: Love and Chaos in the South Bronx,” is set to be published in August.
