ARDMORE, Okla. – An Ardmore man is dead after an officer-involved shooting Sunday.
Just before 10 a.m., a woman called police saying her son, Eric Thompkins, was suicidal.
When officers arrived on scene, they found Thompkins, 41, outside.
Officials say Thompkins refused to take his hands out of his pockets and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun.
That is when an officer shot Thompkins.
He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officers say they also learned Thompkins had ingested a large amount of rat poison before they arrived at the home.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation will conduct a thorough investigation and hand over their facts to the district attorney.
The district attorney will then determine whether the shooting was justified.
