Deputies: Oklahomans being targeted by scammers claiming to be with Treasury Department, IRS
GARVIN COUNTY, Okla. – Sheriff’s deputies in several counties are warning Oklahomans about a scam that is targeting residents in the Sooner State.
The Garvin County Sheriff’s Office says it has received several calls from citizens who were worried about a warrant being issued for their arrest.
The individuals told deputies that they received a call from someone claiming to be with the United States Treasury Department.
The alleged scammer claimed that the victim owed money on back taxes and that if those bills are not paid, a warrant will be issued for their arrest.
Deputies contacted the Treasury Department, who said they are not behind those calls.
Grady County deputies say someone claiming to be with the IRS is also contacting their citizens.
If you receive a call, do not give out any of your personal information.
