OKLAHOMA CITY -- It's been over 10 years since Evangelist Billy Graham had a large event in Oklahoma City. But this weekend, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, with Graham's son, Franklin, had a two-day ministry at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
Franklin Graham is the son of renowned Evangelist Billy Graham. He is also president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse.
In the likeness of his father, Franklin brought an Evangelistic message about the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He spoke about God's love for all people and the need to follow him and Lord and savior.
There were musical performances by All Sons and Daughters, Michael W. Smith, with special guest hosts Amena Brown and DJ Opdiggy. A mass choir of local community members performed, and volunteers from area churches worked the Good News Festival.
Governor Mary Fallin also spoke at the event.
"Christians are being persecuted. Even when we want to put our own 10 Commandments on the state capitol grounds," Governor Mary Fallin said. "And it can be lonely and frightening in our world."
Franklin Graham's message for Oklahomans is one of repentance, love, and faith.
Danny Little, festival director for the BGEA, says the Evangelical organization has held similar events in Oklahoma City in 1956, 1983, and 2003.
