The No. 1 female tennis star Serena Williams is upset in the U.S. Open’s Women’s semifinals on Friday.

Roberta Vinci beat Williams in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, ending Williams’ hope of winning the calendar Grand Slam.

Vinci was unseeded and ranks No. 43 in the world.

Vinci will face fellow Italian Flavia Pennetta in the final on Saturday.
