OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma City man was arrested after allegedly raping a woman he met through a dating app.
Around 2:00 a.m. Sunday, police were called to reports of a rape near I-240 and Walker.
When officers arrived, the woman told police that she had recently met Ivan Kindelan, 28, through the dating app Tinder.
She told police they had started talking within the past five days and decided to meet for the first time.
According to the police report, the woman drove to Kindelan's apartment in the 3100 block of S.W. 89th St. and then they drove to a local bar.
"She had agreed to meet him at a bar, ultimately she went back to his apartment with him," said MSgt. Gary Knight, with Oklahoma City Police.
While they were at the bar, the woman told police Kindelan became "very intoxicated."
When Kindelan and the woman got back to his apartment, the woman says he persuaded her to come inside.
The woman told police that Kindelan started trying to kiss her and she asked him to stop.
However, the woman says that Kindelan became angry and started choking her.
She told police that is when he then allegedly raped her. The victim then left Kindelan's apartment and called police.
"This is just a very tragic story," said Patrick Allmond, technology expert. "Unfortunately, it's going to affect both of them for the rest of their lives."
Tinder's popularity has skyrocketed over the last couple years. The app is known for it's simplicity, users simply 'swipe' left or right, based upon a person's pictures.
But sometimes that simplicity, leads to problems.
"It makes dating seem so easy, it's just a swipe here, swipe there," explained Allmond. "It's the ease of it that's the challenge of it, because you just don't know anything about the people you're dating."
While 'matching' is simple, meeting can be a terrifying venture, and users should always follow some safety tips.
"One of the best things you can do, is do things in groups," said Allmond. "Don't have somebody pick you up, meet in a common place, meet in a public place."
"Make sure you know who you're dealing with, before you go to meet somebody alone, or go to their residence alone," said Knight.
Kindelan was arrested for first-degree rape.
