LOS ANGELES - A woman and her 1-year-old son were found dead Monday in a Los Angeles apartment where their bodies likely had been lying for days while a 2-year-old boy was forced to fend for himself, KTLA reports.

Officers discovered the tragic scene Monday afternoon after a concerned neighbor called 911.

According to KTLA, inside the apartment, officers found the bodies of a woman in her mid-40s and a young boy.

Although authorities have not released the name of the woman, a family friend identified the woman as Erika Tomassian.

A neighbor said she used to babysit Tomassian's two adopted sons, brothers Michael and Nathan.

The woman appears to have collapsed and died while she was feeding her 1-year-old son who was strapped into a chair nearby.

Officials believe the young boy then "aspirated" on food and died.

The mother and son had been dead for about two days before they were found.

Tomassian's other child, a 2-year-old boy, was found alive, but was suffering from severe dehydration.

Police say Tomassian had recently been treated for bronchitis and may have died from complications from the illness.

At this time, no foul play is suspected.
