OKLAHOMA CITY – Police said a baby’s body was found in a south Oklahoma City dumpster Wednesday night.

Officials said Friday, Oct. 16 that while the the baby is still unidentified, they have confirmed it's a boy.

Reportedly, the baby was deceased when officials arrived to the scene.

A man told police he was dumpster diving for cans at the Seminole Ridge Apartments on I-240 and Santa Fe, when he found the baby.

Residents at the apartment complex are disturbed.

"It makes me literally sick to my stomach," Melissa Edwards said.

"I actually work at a preschool, and I'm around young children all the time," Lydia Domescik said. "It was a really sickening fact honestly."

No word on how long the body had been there, but one resident told NewsChannel 4 she remembers smelling something unusual the night before.

Investigators are still trying to determine who left the infant in the dumpster and why.

"We don't know that the child was even born alive," said MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department. "That's something the ME will have to tell us but very, very small, small body."

It has been heartbreaking news to people across the state.

"I'll be in prayer for whoever and whatever is going on," Domescik said.

The body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.

We still do not know if the child was a boy or a girl.

At this point, police said they do not know if any criminal activity was involved in the baby’s death.

They are waiting for the ME’s report.
