OKLAHOMA CITY - One person is dead after a shooting in southwest Oklahoma City.

Police said the violence erupted at an apartment complex near I-240 & Santa Fe, then the victim was put in a car that ended up crashing into another vehicle less than five miles away, right in front of Oklahoma City Community College.

"Although nobody was injured from the crash, they did find a person that had been shot inside one of the vehicles," said MSgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department.

The victim, who was identified as 18-year-old Ruben Rodriquez, Jr.,  was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the car, 18-year-old Christian Navarro, was arrested.

It was just before 8 a.m. Wednesday morning when the 911 call came in.

"The two people that were in that car came from that apartment complex where there had been a confrontation," said Knight.

"I'm not sure what's going on, but it's getting pretty bad around here," said Anthony Becerra.

This resident said he's seen a rise in crime on the city's south side.

"It's pretty uncomfortable. I don't think nobody would be comfortable with a lot of deaths in the area where they grew up at," said Becerra.

Hoping the violence stops, Anthony wants peace in the area where he grew up.

"If the young folk could stop killing each other and doing so much crime, it would probably be a little better," said Becerra.

Authorities say Rodriquez and Navarro were involved in some type of criminal activity at a nearby apartment complex where Rodriquez was shot.

Investigators have yet to locate the person who shot Rodriquez, but Navarro was arrested and booked on a complaint of felony murder.

The murder complaint is due to the fact that Navarro was in the commission of a crime when Rodriquez was fatally shot.
