TULSA, Okla. – An Oklahoma man is behind bars after witnesses say he opened fire near an apartment complex’s playground.

Around 3 p.m. on Saturday, officers with the Tulsa Police Department were called to the Villas at Yorktown for shots fired toward a playground.

At this point, it has not been confirmed whether children were there at the time of the shooting.

“We’re fortunate that no innocent kids or anyone was hit on the playground,” said Officer Leland Ashley, with the Tulsa Police Department.

When police arrived at the complex, they told KOKI that they saw 23-year-old Dujuan Atkins trying to get into a car that was stopped at a stoplight.

When he couldn’t get inside, officers say he ran between office buildings.

Authorities did fire multiple shots in his direction, but say Atkins was not hit by any of the bullets.

“Ultimately, we don’t know what would have transpired if we wouldn’t have got here when we did,” Ashley said.

However, he was tased before being taken into custody.

Officials told KOKI that Atkins will likely face charges of shooting with intent to kill.
