DEWEY, Okla. – A fight at a fourth grade basketball game may result in charges being filed.
Authorities say one boy eventually punched the other in the head and knocked him to the floor.
At that point, police say parents got involved.
Surveillance cameras captured the moment a parent of a child ran at the coach and allegedly punched him in the throat.
“It’s shocking to me that adults would let an elementary school age sporting event turn into a fight like this,” said Sgt. Tim Stringer, with the Dewey Police Department.
A couple of wives also got in on the fight. Authorities say the coach’s wife is accused of going after the man who allegedly punched him, and that man’s wife reportedly grabbed her hair.
“These sporting events are supposed to teach these children sportsmanship, and the parents are setting the example,” he said. “If they expect their children to emulate what transpired on the floor of this gymnasium, then those children are learning the wrong lesson.”
The case has been handed over to the district attorney, who will decide if charges are filed.
