OKLAHOMA CITY - Police are investigating a shooting death of a 19-year-old man at a southeast Oklahoma City apartment complex.

Around 1:20 p.m., officers received a call about the reported shooting at the Chapel Ridge Apartments in the 5700 Block of SE 48th St.

Family and friends on the scene were looking for answers to what happened.

The apartments are near Tinker Air Force Base,  which has some residents concerned about this violent crime.

"We had just got back from church and we came outside always seen was the fire trucks in the ambulance," said Brittany Mathis, who's only lived in the apartments one month.

The shooting came to as a surprise to this young mother who likes to let her son play outside.

"Just all the kids outside playing, having a good time, never this is my first time hearing anything bad you know, I've heard a lot of people say these are good apartments and because you're next to the base," she said.

The shooting does not want to make Mathis move her family.

"...it has you thinking wow do I want to leave my son outside playing," she said.

A play area now shut down by crime scene tape. Leaving investigators and neighbors to wonder who would make the choice to take a life.

"I will be praying for the family because that could've been someone's dad uncle son at that, I just feel bad for him and for the family," Mathis said.

There were no other injuries reported at the scene.

The suspect was seen leaving in a dark colored vehicle. There are no other descriptions at this time.
