OKLAHOMA CITY - A metro man was taken to the hospital after neighbors say four dogs viciously attacked him.

"There were four pit bulls that were out running," said Russell Holmes, a neighbor. "There was a gentleman that was walking down the street."

The now quiet neighborhood in the 2400 block of NW 40th St. was the scene of an attack.

"They attacked him, and they bit him a few times. He ran up on the porch here," Holmes said.

Holmes says he was at home and was able to help the man.

"They got him pretty good. He was bleeding pretty bad," Holmes said.

They're in quarantine now, but officials say they could be released even after the alleged attack.

Immediately neighbors called the police for help.

"And, then, two ladies standing just next-door to the house where they live, they tried to attack them also while the officers were here," Holmes said. "The officers had to spray oc and hit them with their expendables a few times."

Eventually, the dogs calmed down and were taken to the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter.

"They just came in. They were looked at by the veterinarian. They were given vaccines. Then, they'll be observed now," said Julie Bank with Oklahoma City Animal Welfare.

Right now, they will be observed until charges are filed.

If no charges are filed, the dogs may be released back to the owner.

"If an owner comes forwards and tries to claim them, then we'll have to determine what occurs at that point and, if no charges were filed, there's a possibility that they can go back," Bank said.

Representatives with Oklahoma City Animal Welfare want to emphasize if there is a dangerous animal in your neighborhood, you must file charges to prove it in court.

If not, owners can reclaim their dangerous animals.
