JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. – When you go on vacation, you may entrust someone to look after your home while you are away.

Homeowners in Colorado had no idea that while they were away, burglars would destroy their home.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says sometime between April 1 and April 10, burglars broke in to the family’s home.

However, they were not interested in stealing valuable items.

Instead, they attempted to cause as much damage as possible.

Officials say water damage to the home will cost about $175,000 to fix, and another $50,000 worth of damage was done to the family’s personal belongings.
