SAVANNAH, Ga. – A picture of a police officer comforting a little boy is tugging heartstrings across the country.
Officer James Hurst, with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, was called to take a toddler to the hospital after the boy was found wandering without an adult.
According to WTOC, the child became distraught during a medical exam.
“I just knew this child needed somebody to be there for him,” Hurst said. “It was just human instinct; humanity. The hospital staff was taking great care of him [but] he was sobbing and crying. I picked him up and within minutes, he was asleep on my chest.”
According to WTOC, Hurst has only been working with the department since January and is a father of two.
