Former Oklahoma quarterback Cody Thomas drove in five runs to lead the Sooners to a 9-1 win over #15 Oklahoma State in the first of a three-game Bedlam baseball series on Friday night at the Bricktown Ballpark.

Thomas gave OU the lead for good with a 3-run home run in the the top of the 4th inning, then added a two-run double in the 6th inning to lead the way for the Sooners.

OSU got on the board first with an RBI single from J.R. Davis in the third inning that scored Ryan Sluder, but the Cowboys never scored again.

Thomas’ homer ended a 33-inning streak without giving up a run for OSU starting pitcher Thomas Hatch.

Oklahoma added two runs on wild pitches in the 6th inning, then Sheldon Neuse drove in two more on a single in the 9th inning.

The 9 runs by OU were the most they’ve scored in a 9-inning Bedlam game since 2008, and the margin of victory of 8 runs is the largest OU has had in a Bedlam game since a 21-6 win over OSU in the 2006 Big 12 Tournament.

It’s the largest Sooner margin of victory in a regular season Bedlam game since a 12-4 win in 1995.

The two teams came into the game tied 18-18 all-time in regular season games played at the Bricktown Ballpark.

The Cowboys had won 11 of the last 15 Bedlam meetings and five of the last seven in Oklahoma City.

The series continues Saturday at OneOK Field in Tulsa at 7:30, then concludes Sunday in Tulsa at 2:00 pm.
