BIXBY, Okla. – Residents in Bixby are in shock after a family’s pet donkey was shot and left for dead near his home.

Police tell FOX 23 that Brownie was shot Thursday near 203rd St. and S. 129th East Ave.

Family members say Brownie had a habit of getting out of his yard and going to visit horses in a nearby pasture.

His owner believes that he got out and was shot by someone driving by.

“It had to be out of meanness because he wasn’t that type of ornery,” Shay Dickson said.

Dickson says Brownie suffered for hours after being shot until he was found and put down.

“It was a bad way to see somebody go,” Dickson said.
