OKLAHOMA CITY - It was a tragic start to Memorial Day weekend in Oklahoma City.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, emergency crews were called to the 3400 block of N.W. 36th St. on a reported drowning.

"Officers were dispatched to the area of Grand and Pat Murphy. There's a creek just west of this location," Sgt. Ashley Peters, with the Oklahoma City Police Department, said.

Witnesses told dispatchers that they believed someone had drowned in a creek by Will Rogers Park.

Both Oklahoma City police and the fire department responded to the scene.

However, they aren't sure exactly what caused the victim's death.

"At this point, we aren't identifying the gender of this body until we can collect a little bit more evidence and contact a next of kin." Sgt. Peters said.

Police say the victim is an adult, adding that they are investigating the case as a 'suspicious death.'

"We do have homicide out here but we're very early in the investigation and right now that's all the information we have," Sgt. Peters said.
