SHAWNEE, Okla.-- Take a stroll through the Shawnee Animal Hospital, and you might find little Hestia roaming the halls. The pit mix with a heart of gold, now has a back covered in scars.

"It was horrible to see, and she was in a lot of pain," said Dr. Daina Iman.

She was brought to the hospital by the Shawnee Animal Shelter on Saturday, with her back bloody and burned from head to tail.

"Just raw with burns, either chemical or from boiling oil or water," said Iman.

"They literally go from the middle of her eyes down her head, all the way to the end of her tail," noted Mandy Rodenberger, Vet Tech with the hospital.

WARNING: Graphic picture may be disturbing.

For the last few days, the young pup has stayed on a strict schedule of fresh bandaging, pain meds, and all the loving she can handle.

Hestia is reportedly part of an on-going animal abuse case, though the details surrounding what caused the burns are still unclear.

Once her wounds fade away, the hospital hopes to find her a new family, hairless back and all.

"She`s got nice pink tissue that`s healing. It`s all gonna be scar tissue mostly, her hair won`t return," said Iman. "We are gonna get her a new home."
