Family files lawsuit following the death of an inmate

CADDO COUNTY, Okla.-- The family of an inmate who died in the Caddo County Jail has filed a federal lawsuit.

Darius Robinson was arrested for not paying child support in April. Inmates say Robinson was left alone in a cell even though he was hallucinating and eating things off the floor.

Deputies say when they entered the cell Robinson was acting violently, but attorneys say the jailers went too far.

Malik Shabazz, an attorney for the family, said "he died from being strangled, right here in this jail cell. That is unacceptable."

"The jailer is not supposed to be the executioner," he added.

The family is suing the County Commissioner, the jailers, the city of Anadarko, and the agency that runs the Caddo County Jail.

The federal lawsuit contains 9 counts, including wrongful death and excessive force. On most of the counts, the family is asking for damages of 10 million dollars.

"We're disappointed in the lack of answers the family has been given. This is something we're not going to just let go," said Anico Robinson, Darius Robinson's brother.
