Oklahoma City leaders preparing action plan for Zika virus
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City officials say they are forming a battle plan against the Zika virus.
City leaders say they want to be prepared when the mosquito-borne disease hits Oklahoma.
So far, the city has developed an action plan.
First, get the word out that folks need to protect themselves from mosquito bites. Next, larvacide will be used to kill the insects before they hatch.
Along those lines, they encourage residents to eliminate mosquito-breeding sites, standing pools of water. In fact, mosquitoes only need an inch of water to lay eggs.
Right now, the city admits our risk is low but they want to be prepared.
