Man who died after being struck by train in Norman identified
NORMAN, Okla. – Authorities say a man has died after being hit by a train in Norman early Monday morning.
Around 3:30 a.m., emergency crews were called to reports of a train collision near Duffy Crossing.
When officials arrived, they discovered one man had been hit, but he was still alive.
After being taken to an Oklahoma City hospital, the man died from his injuries.
Norman police say they spoke to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train engineer, who said that he saw the man lying in the middle of the tracks. When he blew the train’s horn, the man moved to the side of the railroad tracks.
However, as the train got closer, the engineer says the man jumped back in front of the train.
On Tuesday, officials identified the man as 33-year-old James Kenneth Irons.
