OKLAHOMA CITY - It was a tragic afternoon for a southwest Oklahoma City family.
Almost a dozen dogs died in a house fire.
"We are being told there were 14 dogs inside the home. Most of those are going to probably be deceased," said Benny Fulkerson, Oklahoma City Fire Department.
The call came in around 1:30 pm.
Officials said a neighbor noticed there was a fire and knew dogs were inside.
He kicked in the front door and called firefighters.
"When we arrived, we had smoke coming from the front door and, upon further investigation, we realized that the heaviest amount of fire was on the back side of the house," Fulkerson said.
Once the fire was out and crews found the pets, they got as many out as they could.
Eleven didn't make it.
But, crews were able to save three of the dogs using a pet oxygen mask to resuscitate one of them.
The homeowners were too distraught to take time to talk to us.
Animal Welfare was called to help with the animals.
The fire is still under investigation.
