CHICAGO – An Illinois mother who used to be against childhood vaccines is now warning other parents about that stance.

Kristen O’Meara says she never had her three daughters vaccinated because of the dangers of the side effects.

“I scoured everything I could possibly find about why vaccines might be harmful. I became pretty convinced,” O’Meara told WLS.

After that decision, her 5-year-old and 3-year-old twins were diagnosed with a case of rotavirus. That’s when O’Meara and her husband also got sick.

“It was awful and it didn’t have to happen because I could have had them vaccinated. I felt guilty. I felt really guilty,” she said.

Experts say that although vaccinations are recommended for almost every child, the number of parents refusing to vaccinate their children is on the rise.
