Oklahoma mayor resigns after FBI begins investigation into town’s finances
HARTSHORNE, Okla. – Hartshorne Mayor Carolyn Jo Trueblood has abruptly resigned amid an investigation of the southeastern Oklahoma city’s finances.
The McAlester News-Capital reports that newly-appointed City Treasurer Destiny French confirmed Trueblood resigned Wednesday afternoon. Trueblood could not immediately be reached for comment.
A one-sentence letter Trueblood delivered to city hall states she is retiring and resigning as mayor. Trueblood gave no reason for her resignation.
Local authorities have said the FBI is investigating finances in Hartshorne. A News-Capital investigation has revealed the use of credit cards at the city for the purchase of personal items. It is not publicly known who used the credit card to make the purchases.
Meanwhile, Hartshorne’s City Council is scheduled to meet Thursday night to discuss hiring a new city attorney and suspending a city clerk.
