ARDMORE, Okla. – A former county employee is being charged with embezzlement, but she claims it is all an act of retaliation.

According to KXII, 55-year-old Becky Wright is accused of stealing county records to benefit a private business.

Court documents allege that 42,000 documents were scanned in to her work computer and then deleted. Investigators say that would normally cost $1 per page, but say Wright never paid anything.

Wright denies those allegations and says she was one of several employees trying to create a digital library for the clerk’s office.

Wright believes she’s being prosecuted because she made allegations of wrongdoing to the FBI about former Carter County Clerk Cynthia Harmon.

However, the current prosecutor says the charge is based on evidence.
