PEORIA, Ariz. – Two people have been taken into custody after police say a 5-month-old boy died after being left in a hot car.

According to KPNX, the boy’s uncle, Jose Garcia, Jr.,  and his girlfriend, Monique Avila, called police on Sunday afternoon after they realized they left the baby in the car.

The couple was supposed to be watching the infant while his mother was at work.

Police said they found the child not breathing and believe the baby was left in the car for four hours.

The child was declared dead at a hospital.

Garcia and Avila were arrested on one count of felony child abuse.
