TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. – For the first time in 63 years, Wilma Clauss is being forced to be apart from her husband, Paul.

The couple, who are in their late 80s, were living together in an assisted living facility until Paul had some unexpected health issues.

Now, Medicaid has placed Paul at a different facility across town.

Family members tell WLFI that Paul suffers from severe dementia and his condition has deteriorated after the move.

“They’ve paid into the system. They’ve paid their Medicare and their Medicaid, and I want them to be able to spend their last days together,” said Karen Hood, the couple’s daughter.

“I love him. I just miss having him around,” Wilma told WLFI.
