Oklahoma mother accused of Munchausen by proxy found dead in cell

Caitlin Lewis

TULSA, Okla. – An Oklahoma woman who was accused of child neglect earlier this month has been found dead.

According to KJRH, doctors became suspicious after Caitlin Lewis continued to bring her 3-year-old to hospitals for treatment.

Lewis was eventually arrested on a complaint of child neglect or Munchausen by proxy. Munchausen by proxy is a form of child abuse that involves the “exaggeration or fabrication” of an illness by a caregiver.

This week, Lewis was found dead in her cell.

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office tells KJRH that Lewis likely hanged herself.
