OKLAHOMA CITY--Some are new, but most are used. There is quite a collection of bikes and a story behind each spoke and handle bar.
“He`s such a giving person in general,” Paul Taylor said.
Paul stops by Trent Hickey`s auto business a couple of times a week. Paul is a vendor, he but quickly realized Trent Hickey offers much more than money can buy. For the past five years, Trent has taken up donations of toys even using his own money to make Christmas happen for children who would otherwise not have anything under the tree.
“Their business has exploded, and they just like to give to the community,” Paul said.
Now Paul would like to give back to Trent and nominated him for Pay It Forward.
“Just for him to do this at Christmas time I just think this would be a great honor for him to have,” he said.
And along with First Fidelity Bank, NewsChannel 4 met up with Paul for the surprise. He was working on the bikes.
“I just love your generosity,” Paul said. “Paying it forward.”
“Fantastic. Thank you very much. I do it just to help others, ya know? I`m really passionate about bicycles,” Trent said. “It`s really made a difference in my life. It`s an outlet. I feel like a kid again when I`m riding a bike. Every kid should have a bike. I firmly believe that.”
Last year Trent had just a handful of bikes to give away, but this year he wants to give away as many as he can collect.
“We`re hoping to get at least 200 for Christmas,” he said. “If you all have any ideas about where I can place these with families who need bikes. I need to start thinking about that to get them to the right people.”
Paying it forward. One childhood memory at a time.
“It`s really been a joy in my life, and I want to pass it on,” Trent said.
