OKLAHOMA CITY – If you need tips on gardening, gardening guru Linda Vater has you covered.

Whether you’re planting a tree, shrub, a perennial or an annual, Vater says the rule of thumb is to dig a hole that is two, to two and a half times the size of the root ball itself.

Vater says if you choose, you can give whatever you’re planting a good start with a fertilizer.

Then, no matter what you’re planting, loosen up the root ball.

Vater says you will want the top of the plant to be at the top of the hole.

After you fill the hole in, water your plant right away.
