Online ads target shoppers and sellers

OKLAHOMA - Shopping or selling on Craigslist can be tricky, especially with scammers lurking.

They’re using ads to target people young and old.

Most scams will advertise super low prices for super nice stuff to lure the most people and, if the ad mentions paying through eBay or PayPal, proceed with caution, because neither online money transfer service offers protection for most purchases on Craigslist.

We featured Rita Hayes, a Midwest City widow, who said she was scammed by someone after paying for services through PayPal.

She said she was tricked into thinking PayPal was holding her cash for 30 days.

Now, she’s having a tough time getting her money back.

If the seller refuses to talk on the phone, meet in-person or instructs you to wire cash, it is a scam.

Remember, scammers will create fake websites that look like the real thing.
