SHAWNEE, Okla. - A murder investigation is underway in Shawnee after a 91-year-old woman was found dead inside her home.

Police have identified the woman as Florence Fife.

It happened in the 1200 block of East Main Street.

We’re told the back door had been kicked in and the house was ransacked.

“When we got home, we saw cop cars and trucks and a bunch of people on the front porch over there,” said Tami Reynolds.

Reynolds lives next door and said detectives were interviewing neighbors all night.

The details surrounding Fife’s death are heartbreaking.

Family members said the woman appeared to have been stabbed in the neck.

“You don't expect it to happen in the town you live in,” Reynolds said.

Neighbors said Fife lived there for years and describe her as a kind woman who always checked on the people around her.

“We’d see her taking trash out, or we'd mow the yard and she'd come out and give us a drink because she didn't want us to get dehydrated,” Reynolds said.

Police are working hard to track down who killed Fife and warning people to keep their doors locked and pay close attention to anything that seems suspicious.

Anyone with information on the crime should call Shawnee police.
