BROOKLYN, N.Y. - A 2-year-old girl is being called a hero after what she told her neighbor ended up saving her mother's life.

Prosecutors say 29-year-old Alex Anselmo forced his way inside his ex-girlfriend's apartment and tortured her for three days while their young daughters were in another room.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by WPIX, Anselmo allegedly handcuffed his former girlfriend to her bed and raped her repeatedly. He also cut tendons in her feet to prevent her from being able to escape.

Investigators say the woman was gagged and that Anselmo had used a knife to slash parts of her body.

On the third day, he allegedly pointed a gun at her, asking, "Which leg do you want to be shot in?"

On that day, Anselmo contacted the girls' grandmother and told her that she needed to pick them up because their mother was gone.

When she went to get them, a neighbor heard the 2-year-old talk about what was going on inside the apartment.

"She goes, 'My mommy is gonna sleep forever," Lisa Zayas told WPIX.

The little girl also gave chilling details about the torture.

"She said, 'My daddy tied my mommy's feet, and she had ketchup everywhere on her body and he pulled her by her hair," Zayas said, who then called police.

A short time later, police arrived and discovered the disturbing scene.

The victim is expected to make a full recovery, and Anselmo is being held in jail without bond.
