ARDMORE, Okla. – A building that has been a fixture in Ardmore for generations came tumbling down on Tuesday night.
The historical Kress building stood in the same spot since 1944, before it became a family-owned furniture store for the past 50 years.
On Tuesday night, that all changed.
According to KTEN, construction crews say one of the walls to the building collapsed.
So far, no one seems to know why.
The damage to the building was extensive, so city leaders decided to demolish the rest of the structure.
“That’s the issue right now, is public safety so we are trying to take care of that first and then we will look at after the fact, what’s going to be done in order to take care of the rubble and the side itself,” Ardmore Assistant City Manager Kevin Boatright says.
