LAWTON, Okla. – Police are investigating a possible hate crime after a dead pig was dumped off at a mosque in Oklahoma.

Tuesday night, police say a pig was dumped at the Islamic Center of Lawton.

Surveillance video shows a pick-up truck pulling into the parking lot of the center and turning around.

The truck backs up and the pig’s carcass falls off the tailgate.

The vehicle then drives away.

According to the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK), Muslims are prohibited from consuming pork products and bigots often use pigs or pork to offend Muslim sensibilities.

Dr. Hassan Ahmed, director of the Islamic Center of Lawton, said he is shocked by the action.

“What shocked me is a person has to take a lot of preparation and time and travel and come there and drop off a wild hog in front of the mosque that is not thinking about good things for the community and for the nation. It just shocked me,” Dr. Hassan Ahmed told KSWO.

CAIR-OK is now asking the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate this possible hate crime.

“The FBI should add its resources to the investigation of this case, and all those state and national public figures who promote and exploit the growing Islamophobia in our state and nation should speak out against the post-election wave of such incidents targeting American Muslims,” said CAIR-OK Executive Director Adam Soltani.

At this time, the Lawton police have no suspects.
