US Marshals announce arrest of Oklahoma fugitive in Mexico

OKLAHOMA CITY – The U.S. Marshals Service says authorities in Mexico have arrested an Oklahoma man who’s been missing for nearly two years after an arrest warrant was issued on sexual abuse charges.

Officials say the Billy Wayne Durfey, who has not been formally charged, was wanted in Garvin County in February 2015 on 12 counts of sexual abuse of a child. The U.S. Marshals Services says investigators learned that the man was likely in Mexico, and spent months trying to locate him.

Authorities say the man was arrested in Monterey, Mexico, on Wednesday, then taken to Laredo, Texas, where he awaits extradition to Oklahoma.
