Bomb scare on Delta flight at Will Rogers World Airport
OKLAHOMA CITY – A flight carrying a professional basketball team to Will Rogers World Airport received a bomb threat while in the air.
The NBA’s Boston Celtics flew from Boston to play the Thunder Sunday.
About three-quarters of the way into the chartered Delta flight, a few members of the organization were briefed on the threat, a team spokesman told NewsChannel 4. The rest of the passengers were told once the plane landed at around 5:30 p.m.
Oklahoma City Police say the threat was called in to Will Rogers World Airport security about a bomb on a specific flight. Similar threats had been made to airports around the country, an airport spokesperson told NewsChannel 4.
The commercial flight landed safely at the airport Saturday evening. Team officials told NewsChannel 4 it was not an emergency landing. All passengers left their personal belongings on the plane while officers investigated.
After inspection, Oklahoma City Police quickly found the plane to be safe.
The team took a bus to its hotel and now has all its luggage.
Airport operations were never impacted.
The FBI is investigating.
