Oklahoma electors to gather at Capitol to select Trump
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma’s seven Republican electors are expected to convene at the state Capitol to formally select Donald Trump as the country’s next president.
The electors are scheduled to gather at 9 a.m. Monday in the governor’s Blue Room.
Trump won Oklahoma’s seven electoral votes by more than 36 points over Democrat Hillary Clinton.
The Associated Press surveyed all seven of Oklahoma’s electors and found little displeasure with Trump, although each acknowledged they had been contacted numerous times by people encouraging them to change their vote.
Oklahoma also has a state law prohibiting electors from voting for anyone other than the state’s election winner.
In all, 538 electors are gathering in state capitols nationwide to vote for president. Trump won 306 electoral votes to Clinton’s 232 in the general election.
