Six Oklahoma families are homeless after Thanksgiving morning fire

DURANT, Okla. – Six families are now homeless after a fire destroyed an apartment complex in Durant.

Zachary Grace woke up Thanksgiving morning to the smell of smoke.

“As soon as I opened my door, it was just flames. It was pretty scary,” Grace told KXII.

Firefighters were called to the Parkridge Apartments in Durant on Thanksgiving morning after a fire sparked at the complex.

In all, six units were damaged from the flames and the water used to put out the blaze. Now, those six families have to find some place to stay this holiday season.

One resident had to be rescued from an upstairs window, but no one was injured in the fire.

“The first question is, is everyone OK? Material is material, life is life, you can’t get that back,” said Christopher Stephens.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
